If you are putting together a side hustle or just trying to get your finances to try and escape the nine-to-five and you are not listening to podcasts, you are missing out. Podcasts are an excellent way to passively absorb ideas to get you on the path out of the nine to five. Podcasts are like listening to talk radio where all the content revolves around ideas around getting you financially free.
I got hooked on podcasts soon after I got my first iPod shuffle. If you don’t know what a podcast is, it’s like a radio show recorded and produced by private individuals. I listen to them in my car or whenever I’m not doing anything too mentally tasking. All five on my list I like for different reasons. Some are more information-based, some a more motivational, and some are just fun to listen to for their ideas. So, here is a list of my top five favorite podcasts I am listening to at the moment.
Financial Freedom Podcasts; The James Altuchur Show
James Altuchur heads off our list, well, because he has the most unusual personality. His sense of humor is not something for everyone. He talks seriously about his thoughts of suicide and seems to take great joy in talking about all his screw-ups. I don’t know if he enjoys talking about those things or if it’s the fact that he is so completely comfortable with being transparent that he almost understands things at another level. He doesn’t at all seem concerned about offending anyone with the topics he chooses.
His no-sheepish style of interviewing guests makes the podcast unique and exciting. The only thing I find annoying at all about his show is that he loves to interrupt people. And again, part of his personality, he knows he does it, admits it openly to his guests, and never apologizes for it. This is usually a sign of arrogance. But, in James’ case, I don’t think this at all. His total transparency slices away any feeling of vanity.
But his views on entrepreneurialism and living life are why I like listening to him. He preaches diversified income. He doesn’t teach the importance of going to college. He even thinks home ownership is a complete waste of time. I’m not totally against home ownership, but I believe there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. If you want to be on the path to financial freedom, The James Altuchur Show is one of the best podcasts to check out.
Financial Freedom Podcasts; The Tim Ferriss Show
If you are not familiar with Tim Ferriss, you should be. He wrote a NY Times bestseller, The Four-Hour Work Week, and is a leader in alternative work, financial freedom life lifestyle forever. He is a learning hacker and by far one of the most fascinating people you will listen to. If the old saying is true that it is better to know a little about many subjects rather than know a lot about a few, he is a genius. His podcast guest ensemble is a diverse collection of people who are probably some of the most respected people in the world in their particular niche.
And, he seems to question them in a way that gives you their knowledge stripped down to its core, so everyone understands what that particular subject is about. He has a unique ‘hacked’ style of learning which allows him to get very versed in subjects in a minimal amount of time. He has a great system he’s hacked together to learn languages and be fluent in many. And, the cool thing is, if you want to learn a new language, he teaches you the method he uses.
He does speak about financial freedom, but it’s not at the core of his podcast. His gift in the podcast is the vast knowledge and ideas you will get from listening. The Tim Ferriss Show is a treat for the brain.
Financial Freedom Podcasts; The Side Hustle Show
The Side Hustle Show podcast has only been on my radar for less than a year, but it’s already grown to be one of my favorites. Nick Loper dives into the topic of finding side hustles to make extra money. He interviews all sorts of entrepreneurs who are earning side money in unique ways and lays out how they do it. The neat thing about Nick is that his interviews don’t only concentrate on people who make money in the online world. He covers a ton of topics from investing in mobile home parks to arbitrage to online affiliate marketing businesses. He is a ‘side hustler’ and talks freely about how he tests out the ideas from his podcasts. His style is free and jovial, and you can tell he is as interested in trying the content from his podcasts as he is in creating an excellent podcast.
I guess what I’m trying to get across is, that he is interviewing his guest for his knowledge, and you are just along for the ride. That is not to say that production value is low. He presents his show like an actual radio show with crystal clear audio and well-edited content. This one needs to be on your list.
Financial Freedom Podcasts; The Ask Gary Vee Show
If you’ve never heard Gary Vaynerchuk speak before, you are missing out. Before I get into why I like Gary Vee, you need to check out a couple of YouTube videos. After that, I think you will know why. So, here is the first and his break-out video. The second is a little video about regret. I think living with regret becomes the most motivating factor for me to get out of the nine to five. I need to warn you, Gary Vee is a PG13 person. If you are sensitive to certain types of language, he might not be for you. But, if you are tough-skinned and it doesn’t bother you, this guy is one of the most motivational business speakers today.
Whenever things get tough, I start listening to his podcast or watching his videos to get back on track. Besides that, his ideas on social media and building an audience are at the cutting edge of our time. And, he is always shifting to stay on top of the market. If there is a shift, he is there, and he’s not afraid of sharing it. He embodies everything I talk about when it comes to building a brand and creating a platform. His energy is off the chart and just listening to him for fifteen or twenty minutes will get you fired up to accomplish anything you want.
It’s too much of an adrenaline rush for me. I listen for a couple of days, and then I have to give it a little bit of a rest. His videos and audio podcasts are some of the best.
Financial Freedom Podcasts; The Smart Passive Income Podcast
Pat Flynn, I consider my mechanic. He is not the most fired-up and exciting guy to listen to, but the content he shares is fantastic. His podcasts listen like a step-by-step approach to accomplishing anything you need to do online. He offers so much incredible content to help people make money online. If I am struggling with putting together a particular system, I always look toward Pat Flynn’s podcast to lay it out and break things down. His audio content is of very high production value. I’ve listened to other podcasts with useful information, but they are hard to listen to because the production and the audio quality just aren’t there. Pat’s is top-notch, and that is why he makes it onto my list as one of the best.
Podcasts are one of my favorite ways of learning. Any topic you have an interest in probably has a podcast to go along with it. For business motivation and getting yourself out of the nine to five, these five are my favorite. Immerse yourself in the world of the financially free ‘new economy.’ Podcasts are just one of the vehicles for immersion. The internet moves too fast for me to keep updating old posts with new information. So, the best way for me to do it is through my email list. If you’d like to sign up for my email list, I have several places on the site to make that happen.
Be safe,
Kevin
