Why there aren’t more school shootings? Now, I’m not condoning them or even suggesting that they aren’t horrific acts of violence. All I’m saying is, in this supercharged always on the go in your face world we live in, that it doesn’t happen more. I mean much more.
I don’t want to seem like the one sitting back and pointing fingers like so many do. “It’s not me.” “It’s not my kid.”
I think we all just need to man up and accept the fact that we have all taken part in shaping this world we live in. We all need to accept at least the fact that somewhere down the line in at very least the ra-ra support of the type of society we have created we are somewhat responsible.
Now, that we have all accepted at least some small portion of responsibility, how are we going to go about solving it? All these kids in the media lashing out at pro-gun advocates screaming, “No More!” Isn’t their hatred fueling the very system of conflict we need to avoid? The media champions them. They need something to print. Gun violence in schools has been escalating rather than receding. The simple cry of, “No More!” will do nothing but escalate the violence more.
So, I can’t come on here and just point fingers. That would sink me to the level of the blame of so many others. I’m a part of society. I’ll shoulder at least my part of creating an always-on, always competitive, in-your-face, pushing people down to pull myself up attitude which seems to plague the society we live in.
What do I think we need?
Empathy, and a lot of it.
And I think society needs to tone it down a notch. Slow it down a notch. Be more mindful of our own actions and not be so critical of others. Severe competition is now more about pushing people down and crushing them in defeat.

The best advice I can give is to slow down. Take a deep breath. Show them empathy because you are the one who ‘gets it’.
It took a century to escalate ourselves to this point. We aren’t going to solve it with a couple of protests and a few laws passed.
We are changing the culture here. We will need to change the entire mindset most of us have grown up knowing. Especially since the ship is full speed ahead. We need to not only slow this behemoth down but reverse engines and go the other way. This takes time. We need to show empathy and have patience. The hypercharged will eventually take notice as you meander around in the midst of chaos with a smile on your face, going about your own life with mindfulness and empathy toward others.
You will be made fun of
Rest assured the hypercharged will make fun of you. It will aggravate them when you won’t want to stand up and fight, scream into microphones, or pump your fist in the air for the newest cause on the block. I don’t get involved. I stay to the right. I let the left laners crash it out amongst themselves.
