I always tried in the emails to capture the reader then timing it into an event or food at the restaurant. This one is about a pearl white Cadillac.
Years after I wrote this I did get my pearl white Cadillac.
The Pearl White Cadillac
I saw a Cadillac today. It was a beautiful pearl white.
The beauty of black tires contrasted perfectly against the purity of the body lines; straight yet flowing. Everything seemed to stand still as we rolled along side the car at a high rate of speed.
The car was clean and perfect. Probably painstakingly manicured for hours by a true car connoisseur.
I inhaled every ounce of that moment.
The beauty all around us, if we take a little time to soak it all in, can make some of the simplest events cherishable for a
The simple memory of a beautiful automobile rolling past you on the freeway may stick for a reason we really don’t know why.
The beauty of that car got me thinking about food.
Many say we eat with our eyes.
I think we consume with all our senses.
The next time you’re at the restaurant, take a moment to take in the beauty of the food; the contrasting colors, temperatures, favors and textures all come together to create an art form all of it’s own.
The purity of the white plate makes a bold statement next to the rich chocolate browns of the meat. The ice cold tartar sauce and cole slaw balance the piping hot fish. The green of parsley balances sharply against the steak; leaving it’s mark of delicious beauty with you indefinitely.
Then you bite. The bitterness of lemon dances biliantly against the smooth mellowness of the fish. The cool rich sour cream mellows slightly the hot flake of a baked potatoe.
Hot and cold … bitter and sweet … contrasting colors contrast against the plate.
Just take a brief moment to soak it all in; the simplistic beauty of a judiciously prepared meal; contrasting in site, aroma, and taste. Maybe that simple moment will leave a memory of pleasure for you.
Stop in, have dinner, treat yourself, enjoy your Cadillac moment.
Bon appetit!
